Black fungus is a normally rare infection but in recent times India has seen thousands of cases of black fungus. In the recent times, it can mostly be seen in people who have either recovered from Covid or are in the recovering stage. according to doctors, it can be seen more in the second wave than it was seen in the first. It has also been observed that diabetic people are more prone to it.
The centre on Thursday, 20th May had written a letter to all the states and Union Territories to declare black fungus or Mucomycosis a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897. Several Indian states have declared it an epidemic and a notifiable disease. The states that have done so are Telangana, Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Gujrat, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Maharashtra and Haryana among others.
