Four Army personnel were killed and nine others sustained injuries after their military vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

The accident occurred at Khanni Top on the Bhaderwah Chamba interstate road. According to officials, the bullet proof Army vehicle was carrying 17 personnel and was en route to a high altitude post when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge nearly 200 feet into the gorge.

A joint rescue operation involving the Army and local police was launched immediately after the incident. Four soldiers were found dead at the spot, while nine others were pulled out alive with injuries, officials said.

Among the injured, three soldiers suffered critical injuries and were airlifted to the military hospital in Udhampur for specialised medical treatment. The condition of the remaining injured personnel is reported to be stable.
