Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh downplayed allegations of backroom discussions with the Congress on Friday, saying the “time for reconciliation is past.” Amarinder Singh has stated that he will form his political party shortly and will discuss seat-sharing with the BJP.
Amarinder Singh’s aide Raveen Thukral quotes him and said: “Reports of backend talks with Congress are incorrect. The time for rapprochement is over. I’m grateful to Sonia Gandhi Ji for her support but will not stay in Congress now.” Amarinder Singh declared earlier this week that he will create a new political party. He stated that once the Election Commission approves the party’s name and symbol, he will confirm it. Punjab will have elections early next year.
