A gunman entered a high school in British Columbia, Canada, on Wednesday, leading to a tragic shooting that killed ten people and injured more than twenty-five others. Eight individuals were killed at the school, while two others were found dead in a nearby home. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) identified a female suspect as the shooter, though the motive for the attack remains unclear.
Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth described the incident as heart-wrenching and assured that the government would provide all necessary support to the victims. Following the incident, an emergency alert was issued but later lifted once police confirmed there were no other suspects at large. Elementary and secondary schools in the Tumbler Ridge area have been closed for the remainder of the week.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the incident in North America, sending condolences to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and the families of the victims. He stated that India stands in solidarity with the people of Canada during this difficult time and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
