A devastating road accident took place in Agra when a speeding container truck collided with an auto rickshaw resulting in the death of six people and leaving two others seriously injured. The victims were returning from a religious pilgrimage when the incident occurred.
According to police reports the accident happened on Saturday morning near Nagla Chandan village on the Jalesar Road. The container struck the auto with such force that it was badly mangled. Passengers were thrown onto the road causing chaos at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as residents of Ghatwas village in Hathras district. Those who lost their lives include Chaudhary Udayveer Singh aged sixty two Vijay Singh Gautam aged forty Chaudhary Ranveer Singh aged seventy five Billa Mishra aged fifty five and Lakshmi Chand aged sixty. The auto driver Sarfaraz Khan a resident of Badaun also died in the accident.
Two other passengers including a retired police officer Vijay Singh and Dhan Prasad sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment. Doctors have described their condition as critical. In another auto that was hit while the container driver attempted to flee several people were injured including women and a child.
Eyewitnesses said the container first rammed into the pilgrims auto and then crashed into another auto nearby. Blood was scattered across the road and injured passengers were seen crying for help. Angry locals gathered at the spot and caught hold of the container driver beating him before handing him over to the police.
Police officials stated that a case has been registered against the container driver and further investigation is underway. Authorities have assured strict action and appealed to drivers to maintain speed limits to avoid such tragic incidents.
