Andhra Pradesh | A horrific bus fire in Kurnool district claimed at least 20 lives early Friday morning when a Bengaluru-bound private sleeper bus burst into flames following a road accident.
According to officials, the tragic incident occurred around 3 a.m. when the bus collided with a motorbike, triggering a massive fire that engulfed the entire vehicle within minutes. Many passengers were asleep at the time, leaving them with no chance to escape.
Most of the victims were burnt beyond recognition, and the inferno completely destroyed the bus, leaving behind nothing but a charred metal frame.
Among the passengers were several IT professionals traveling to Bengaluru. Survivors recalled the terrifying moments as they woke to the sound of an explosion and scrambled to escape through the windows, sustaining fractures and minor injuries in the process.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, and rescue teams worked through the morning to recover bodies and assist the injured.
The Kurnool tragedy has once again raised concerns about road safety and fire preparedness in long-distance private buses operating across the region.
