Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal unveiled the country’s first “smog tower” on Monday, a Rs 20 crore experimental structure that purifies air in a 1-kilometer radius at a rate of 1,000 cubic meters per second.
The tower’s data will be analyzed to establish its efficacy, according to Kejriwal, who described it as “experimental.” If a pilot study conducted on the new one built up at Connaught Place yields positive results, he said, smog towers may be raised in other locations of the city as well.
The tower was erected to a height of 24.2 meters behind the Shivaji Stadium Metro station in Connaught Place. The results of the pilot study could be available in a month, according to Kejriwal. He stated that if the initiative fails, new techniques will have to be tried.
