Elon Musk’s space business Spacex launched 88 satellites as part of its second in-house “ride-share” operation from Florida, increasing the total number of orbital objects launched this year to almost 900, according to media reports. According to the Verge, the firm launched the satellites on a reused Falcon 9 rocket for the “Transporter-2” mission on Wednesday, along with the first five for a new Pentagon agency and dozens more for other companies, nations, and schools.
The flight was also SpaceX’s second launch from Florida to polar orbit. This was the company’s 20th launch of the year, and the rocket’s first stage booster’s eighth flight. That rocket landed roughly ten minutes later at SpaceX’s Landing Zone 1.
