Today, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana harshly criticized the functioning of parliament, focusing on the lack of debates on laws. He compared it to former periods when both houses of parliament were packed with lawyers, and he urged the legal community to give their time to public service as well.
He described the current scenario as a sorry state of affairs, saying that there is no real debate in the chamber.
There is a lack of clarity in the laws. We have no idea what the law’s objective is. It is a public embarrassment. He remarked that this is when attorneys and intellectuals are not present in the Houses.
