Jaipur | A busy road in the Harmada area of Jaipur turned into a horrific scene on Monday afternoon when a speeding dumper truck lost control and rammed into around 17 vehicles on the Delhi Ajmer Highway. The massive crash claimed 13 lives and left 10 others severely injured. The dumper, allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver, sped through a 300-meter stretch before finally colliding with a trailer near Loha Mandi. Crushed motorcycles, wrecked cars, and scattered bodies covered the road as panic spread among bystanders and commuters
Officials Express Condolences and Order Investigation
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and directed officials to ensure immediate medical care for the injured. Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa, along with former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, also extended condolences to the victims’ families. The Chief Minister posted on social media that the Harmada accident was heartbreaking and that all possible assistance would be provided
Eyewitnesses Describe the Horrific Scene
Locals who witnessed the incident said the impact was devastating. Mahesh Sharma, a nearby shop owner, described it as a scene of complete chaos with people screaming and bodies being pulled from wrecked cars. He said that several victims were trapped inside their vehicles while others lay injured on the road as locals rushed to help before emergency services arrived
Authorities Detail the Sequence of Events
According to Jaipur District Collector Jitendra Soni, the dumper came from Road Number 14 at a high speed and hit multiple vehicles near the Loha Mandi petrol pump. Thirteen people were confirmed dead, while ten others were taken to the trauma centre at SMS Hospital where several remain in critical condition. Additional Police Commissioner Rajiv Pachar stated that the dumper driver was driving recklessly and continued to accelerate even after hitting a car. Locals chased the vehicle as it hit pedestrians and bikers before finally coming to a halt after striking a trailer truck
Driver Detained and Suspected of Drunk Driving
Residents managed to catch the driver and handed him over to the police. Officials said that his medical examination will confirm whether he was under the influence of alcohol, though the severity of the crash suggests intoxication or a possible medical emergency. CCTV footage from nearby cameras captured the dumper speeding at over 100 kilometres per hour as it rammed into vehicles and ran over motorcyclists
Victims Include Families Returning from Religious Trip
Among the deceased were members of a family from Agra returning from Khatushyamji after offering prayers. Their parked car was hit from behind by the dumper, killing several members and injuring others. In another tragic case, Mahendra, a weaver from Bainad Road, was killed along with his young niece while another niece remains in critical condition at the hospital
Public Outrage and Road Safety Demands
The accident sparked protests in the Harmada area as residents demanded stricter action against reckless driving and better enforcement of road safety rules. This tragic crash came just a day after another fatal accident in Rajasthan’s Phalodi region where fifteen people, including women and children, died when a tempo traveller collided with a stationary trailer truck
