Princess Diana’s wedding dress for her 1981 wedding is one of the most famous dresses around the world as a billion viewers have seen it during her wedding. The gown sparked such intense interest that young designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel locked the ivory silk dress , which had a 25-foot (7.6meter) long train , in a safe at night. Art handler Murton explained that the gown was made of six different fabrics which include 25 yards of silk taffeta, 100 yards of tulle crinoline and 150 yards of netting for the veil. Speaking of the train, it is the longest train ever worn in the history of royal weddings. Diana’s white wedding dress isn’t exactly pure white but off white-ivory.
The exhibition- Royal Style in the making – at the Orangery at Kensington palace , Diana’s home until her death in a car crash in Paris in 1997 , focuses on the work of designers who dressed not just Diana but also Queen Elizabeth second , Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother.
