Taapsee Pannu: There is only one superstar, rest are stars

Taapsee Pannu believes that she has a long way to go before she becomes a star like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, whose films are almost guaranteed to get a good opening at the box office.

In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Taapsee said,”There is only one superstar and the rest of them are stars. In my definition, stars are ones who guarantee you a certain opening, regardless of the film being good or bad. Actors like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajith Kumar and Vijay are the big stars who command certain opening.”

“The day the audiences walk into my film and say they bought tickets because Taapsee is in it without knowing anything about the movie, that day I become a ‘star’,” she added.

Taapsee believes in the quality of the roles, and not the screen-time. “I do films which have strong female characters. I don’t mind taking up small yet significant characters, which you will be remembered even if you walk out of theatres,” the actress, who is gearing up for the release of Game Over, said.

She also said that she realised the pressure of being the main protagonist in Game Over after her film promos came out.

“I realise this now that it can be quite risky as the film is centred on my character. I did not think of it when I signed the film. The pressure of handling the film as the only actor, did not come to my mind before the promos started. When I saw the poster for the first time with the line ‘Taapsee in Game Over’, which I have not seen before ever, I felt the pinch,” the Pink actress revealed.

Earlier, Taapsee told IANS that initially she waited to work with Khans of Bollywood, but didn’t get any chance to.

“Initially I waited for long to get an offer opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, but since I did not get a chance, I explored the opportunities that came my way so that I can make my space here in the film industry,” she had said.

Directed by Ashwin Saravanan, Game Over is slated to be released on June 14 in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.

Taapsee Pannu has carved a niche for herself with the choice of films in her career spanning six years in Bollywood. Taapsee has picked strong roles in films like Pink (2016), Naam Shabana (2017), Manmarziyaan (2018), Mulk (2018) and the upcoming film Game Over.
