Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to urge that Renu Sharma, the state’s new chief secretary, be replaced because she does not speak Mizo and his ministers do not speak Hindi. Although the letter was written on October 29, its contents were only revealed on Monday.
Sharma, a 1988 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories, assumed command on November 2. According to sources familiar with the situation, Zoramthanga was dissatisfied with the Centre’s pick for the position.
