The Mumbai Police, which has been trying to capture underworld don Ravi Pujari for the last one year, has finally succeeded. A police official said on Saturday that a court in Karnataka has allowed the priest to be handed over to Mumbai police custody. For this, a team has been sent to Bangalore, who will return to Mumbai on Monday with the dreaded gangster in custody.Milind Bhrambe, Joint Commissioner (Crime), Mumbai Police, said, “This is a big success for the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police.” The priest, who had been taking refuge in foreign countries for many years, was extradited from South Africa to India in February last year. Since then, he was lodged in a jail in Karnataka and the Mumbai Police was trying to get him in his custody.A police officer said that the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of the crime branch would take the priest into custody in the firing incident on October 21, 2016 at Vile Parle. Action is underway in this case under the MCOCA law and seven aides of the priest have already been jailed. He said that a team led by AEC Incharge Inspector Ajay Sawant and Inspector Sachin Kadam was constantly trying to get the priest’s custody. Please tell that Ravi Pujari, originally from Udupi district of Karnataka, was running a racket of extortion by staying abroad. His gang was famous for making illegal extortion from big industrialists and film personalities.
