The Rs. 50,000 crore project on bundling six new- gen stealth submarines has been sanctioned by Rajnath singh Defence acquisition council (DAC).The Indian Navy currently has 12 submarines, In addition, there are two nuclear submarines INS Arihant and INS chakra in the navy’s fleet. The approved tender or RFP (request for proposal ) was issued to defence shipyard Mazagon Docks (MDL)
And private ship-builder L & T this friday. “It will take from now well over a year for the winning bid to be selected, followed by the inking of the actual contract. Thereafter, the delivery of the first submarine will take at least seven years.so , in effect , the cash outflow will be staggered over 10-12 years,” said an official.
