Kolkata’s police commissioners have been changed before the assembly elections in West Bengal. Now the responsibility of this post has been given to ADG and IG Police (Training) Soumen Mitra. He has been appointed the new Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, replacing Anuj Sharma. Sharma has been made ADG-CID.
As per the laid down procedure, long-held officials are shifted to the same place before the election. Recently, the Election Commission team visited West Bengal and gave necessary instructions to the state government. This involved the transfer of officers who had been at the same place for a long time.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma was accused by opposition parties, including BJP, of working in favor of the ruling party Trinamool Congress. For all these reasons, Sharma has been removed.
Let me tell you, Assembly elections are to be held in West Bengal in the next few months. Regarding this, while political stirring in the state is fast, administrative and electoral preparations have also started. The commission can announce the election schedule in the next few days. With this, the state will have a code of conduct. Before that, the Mamta government is busy in making administrative arrangements.
