Over and above the comparison with Messi, Chhetri, who is 36, has passed him as the second-best global scorer among active competitors. “I see Messi’s videos when I’m unhappy, and when I meet him I’m going to tell him I’m a fan, offer him a beautiful handshake, and that’s all,” Chhetri stated in an interview with AIFF.
