On Thursday, PM Narendra Modi and President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will sign a contract for the mammoth Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP), the country’s largest infrastructure project.
The project, which is backed by a $100 million Indian grant and a $400 million Line of Credit, is also India’s largest new construction project in its neighborhood in recent years. The Maldives government and Indian infrastructure giant AFCONS will sign a contract in Male to kick off the project, which will be the largest in the Indian Ocean atoll nation.
Called the Greater Male Connectivity Project, it will involve the construction of a 6.74 km long bridge and causeway link connecting the capital Male with the adjoining islands of Villingli, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi.
