The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall across several districts of West Bengal, and heavy to very heavy downpour in some parts of the state from Friday to Sunday (June 18 to June 20)
On Friday, an orange alert (heavy to very heavy) was issued at one or two places across South 24 Pargana, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, West Burdwan and Birbhum districts.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert (heavy rain) was issued in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Kolkata, North 24 Pargana, Nadia, East Burdwan, Murshidabad, Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia, Jhargram and Bankura districts of Gangetic West Bengal.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over one or two places across Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Alipurduar districts on Saturday.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the West Bengal coast from Friday to Sunday.
“During lightning activity people are advised to stay indoors and take shelter in pucca structures,” the IMD said in its statement.
