Horrific fire in multi-storey building in Kolkata, 9 died

Nine people died in the horrific fire on the 13th floor of the Kolaghat building in Kolkata on Monday evening. The dead included four firemen, railway policemen, three others including ASI. The building houses the offices of the East and South Eastern Railways and the railway has a computerized ticket reservation center on the ground floor. 15 fire engines controlled the fire late at night after a lot of hard work. President Ramnath Kovind and other leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the incident.

President Ram Nath Kovind tweeted that the words of the accident caused by a fire in a building in Kolkata cannot be described. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families. I wish the injured well soon.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the fire in the Kolkata building. My condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. The injured are wished to recover as soon as possible. Also, he has approved the ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF to the families of those who lost their lives in Kolkata and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured.

Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted that he was very sad to know about the loss of life and property due to a fire accident in Kolkata. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the early recovery of the injured.

BJP President JP Nadda tweeted that the mind is distressed due to the death of people due to fire accident in Kolkata. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives. I pray that the injured recover as soon as possible. The BJP stands with the bereaved families and will provide all possible help.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted and expressed condolences on the incident and also assured the state government of all possible help. He also informed that to find out the cause of the fire, the Railways has set up a high level committee under the leadership of four officials.
