Nine people died in the horrific fire on the 13th floor of the Kolaghat building in Kolkata on Monday evening. The dead included four firemen, railway policemen, three others including ASI. The building houses the offices of the East and South Eastern Railways and the railway has a computerized ticket reservation center on the ground floor. 15 fire engines controlled the fire late at night after a lot of hard work. President Ramnath Kovind and other leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the incident.

BJP President JP Nadda tweeted that the mind is distressed due to the death of people due to fire accident in Kolkata. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted and expressed condolences on the incident and also assured the state government of all possible help. He also informed that to find out the cause of the fire, the Railways has set up a high level committee under the leadership of four officials.
