Former Indian team captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that Team India has ‘different rules for different players’. He has given the example of bowlers like Ravichandran Ashwin and T Natarajan. Gavaskar said that captain Virat Kohli got permission to return to India from Australia on paternity leave, while fast bowler T Natarajan, who became a father during the IPL playoffs, is yet to see his daughter.
Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar, ‘If Ashwin does not take wickets in one match, he is ruled out of the next match. This however does not happen for established batsmen. Even if they fail in one game and they get another chance. But another rule applies for Ashwin.
He said, ‘One more player, for whom Rule will be of surprise. But of course he cannot speak about it, because he is new. That player is T. Natarajan. The left-arm yorker fast bowler, who made a brilliant debut in T20 and Hardik Pandya shared the T20 series award with him.
Gavaskar said, ‘Natarajan became a father for the first time during the IPL playoffs. He was taken directly from UAE to Australia and then, seeing his great performance, he was asked to remain there for the Test series, but not as a part of the team … but as a net bowler.
