The legendary veteran filmmaker-poet passed away on Thursday morning due to kidney ailments. According to reports, Buddhabed Dasgupta was ill and was on dialysis for a while. He died in his sleep at 8 in the morning in his south Kolkata residence. The eminent poet and filmmaker has won several National Awards for his contribution to bengali cinema.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a heartfelt message on Twitter “ Saddened at the passing away of eminent filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Through his works, he infused lyricism into the language of cinema. His death comes as a great loss for the film fraternity. Condolences to his family, colleagues and admirers”.
