Friends: The show that changed our idea of family, when friends were your family until we all moved on to get married have kids, just like they did when they moved out. Friends has been the show that has kept smile on our face even during difficult times specially during the pandemic caused lockdown. So, here it is what all Friends fan have been waiting for such a long time. So, just ‘pivot ! pivot ! pivot !’ , and explore when the Friends cast revisited the set & were asked ‘how you doin’
The show has been designed as an emotional journey in almost a two-hour special, we see the main cast get together in the same space after 17 years, walking the same sets. It is designed for the fans. So, just immerse yourself in the world created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman. There are a few jaw-dropping revelations (which must be out on the internet at this point), and there is a genuine interaction and connection about the way Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt Le Blanc and David Schwimmer looked at each other no tears, no hugs were forced upon. The bond is compelling. Director Ben Winston has done a wonderful job of programming the special as a series of games and chatter, with even a rap show with show costumes ramp show.
James Corden hosted the interview section of the special, which was a really really bad choice. The questions he asked were standard and uninteresting on the whole probably an opportunity wasted and lots of questions left unanswered.
You have to be a massive fan to like this show to understand the references when they talked about various episodes and behind the scene incidents. As a viewer who has watched Friends a number of times over the years but has not gone back to it in the last three-four years, I was satisfied.
The celebrity guests’ part turned out to be a downer. Although the obvious big deal about the “Friends” reunion was that the six original cast members would be gathering together for only the second time since the sitcom wrapped in 2004, the HBO Max special didn’t JUST give fans Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. Also making appearances were everyone from series guest stars including Reese Witherspoon and Tom Selleck, to such celebrity super fans of the series as David Beckham, BTS and Malala Yousafzai, and icons in their own rights Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. Many shot off-site interviews that served as added color around the event happening on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif. But Selleck, Bieber and Gaga, among a number of others, appeared in-person on the old “Friends” stomping grounds of Stage 24.
3. Elliott Gould and Christina Pickles
4. Gunther - James Michael Tyler
The part where Lady Gaga gets to jam with Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay was fun to watch as well, with the former claiming how Phoebe’s ‘different and vibrant’ personality made some people who didn’t fit in anywhere feel special.
Watch it on Zee5.
The Edge Rating : 3.5/5
