At the completion of the sixth round of voting in the Bhawanipur Assembly seat, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee leads by 23,957 votes. The Trinamool Congress is also in the majority in the remaining two Murshidabad district seats.
The counting of ballots for the critical byelection to the Bhawanipur seat in south Kolkata, where TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is running for re-election as chief minister, began at 8 a.m. under strong security presence. Votes are also being tallied for the Jangipur and Samserganj assembly constituencies in the state’s Murshidabad district, as well as the Pipili constituency in Odisha.
