Andhra Pradesh | The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that the severe cyclonic storm Montha has started making landfall near the Andhra Pradesh coast and the process is expected to last for the next three to four hours.
According to an update shared by the IMD on X at 7:23 pm on Tuesday, current weather observations indicate that Montha has officially begun its landfall phase. The cyclone is projected to move inland between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, with Kakinada likely to experience the center of its impact.
The storm is expected to bring sustained wind speeds ranging from 90 to 100 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 110 kilometers per hour.
The name Montha originates from the Thai language, meaning a Fragrant Flower, and this weather event marks a significant system affecting the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh as it continues its movement inland.
