Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday that the UP government is lying about the death of teachers during the panchayat poll duty.

Akhilesh Yadav tweeted,”To avoid giving compensation, the ruthless BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is now lying that only three teachers have died during election duty while the figures given by the teacher’s body is more than 1000″. Adding to this, he said,”The BJP government is creating a world of big lies. How would the heartless BJP members realise the grief to these families?”. He also put up a newspaper story in support of his statement.

The president of Prathmik Shiksha Sangha, Dinesh Chandra Sharma had earlier issued a report which shows the death of 1,621 teachers and workers, since the first week of April. Out of the total numbers, 90% were on the panchayat election duty. Mr. Yadav is also demanding that the families must be paid Rs. 1 crore each for the loss.

On the other hand, the UP state Minister for basic education, Satish Chandra Dwivedi argued the statement. He said that according to the government data, only three teachers have died on the poll duty. All these deaths cannot be accredited to the elections.
