Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday said a new statue of Basavanna will be installed within the premises of Vidhan Soudha, the state secretariat.
Basavanna was a 12th century philosopher and the founder of the Lingayat sect.
The decision to install a new statue of the Lingayat saint comes at a time Yediyurappa is facing rebellion against him. Yediyurappa, who belongs to the Lingayat community, has received the support of many Lingayat seers who want him to continue as chief minister till 2023.
Karnataka minister Yogeshwar, who had revolted against Yediyurappa, said, “As for a change of leadership in Karnataka, we have written exams and are waiting for the results. Let’s see what they will say.”
