Officials say an Indian Air Force Mirage 2000 fighter jet crashed this morning in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh. The pilot evacuated successfully, according to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The debris is strewn across an empty field in Mankabad, some 6 kilometers from Bhind. A police cordon has been created around the crash site, which has the smoldering tailpiece of the trainer jet half-buried in the grass.
During a training sortie in the central sector this morning, an IAF Mirage 2000 aircraft had a technical problem. The pilot was able to safely exit the plane. An investigation into the cause of the accident has been ordered.
