fter getting a lukewarm opening with Rs 2.88 crore on the first day of release, PM Narendra Modi picked up with earning around Rs 4 crore on day 3. The film earned Rs 3.76 crore on its second day. The weekend collection of the film amounts to around Rs 10 crore in India, which is expected to take a plummet in the coming week.

After poor response from critics, PM Narendra Modi, the film has fared well in the weekend against all expectations. The film garnered controversy after it was called a propaganda film to favour Narendra Modi government for the recently held elections. The release date of the film, which was initially scheduled to release on April 12, was stalled by the Election Commision of India shifted to May 24 . However, despite creating headlines ever since the first trailer dropped, the film did not witness enough footfall on day 1.

PM Narendra Modi biopic traces the life of the Prime Minister from the days of his abject poverty to becoming the leader of India’s largest democracy. Directed by Omung Kumar, the cast also includes Rajendra Gupta as Modi’s father, Manoj Joshi as Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah.

Giving the film one star, India.Today.in film critic Ananya Bhattacharya writes, “PM Narendra Modi the film takes its viewer through the best bits of Modi’s life. It highlights the struggles of this man, who fought his way from selling tea in train compartments and sleeping in caves to 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. On the way, it caricatures the Opposition, Congress, Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi… and robs Manmohan Singh of his voice altogether. So much so, that Anupam Kher as Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister from earlier this year feels worthy of an Oscar.”

About Vivek Oberoi’s performance, Ananya writes, “Vivek Oberoi fades in front of Modi the leader. Because when you play a man as in the public eye as Narendra Modi, you need to be bloody sure of your art. Vivek Oberoi does a half-hearted job of playing Modi. He grimaces, makes strange faces and tries expressing himself from behind that beard and moustache, but falls terribly short of playing our man at the Centre. Meanwhile, the number of grey and black hair in his eyebrows keeps fluctuating.”
