A former Air Force officer was shot by unidentified attackers in the Sushant Golf City area of Lucknow late Friday night. The incident occurred when the retired officer was returning home after closing his restaurant. His wife was also present with him at the time of the attack.
According to police sources the incident took place around ten at night when the officer stopped his car near a shopping complex. Two assailants arrived in another vehicle blocked his way and called out his name. As soon as he responded the attackers opened fire hitting him with a bullet.
Hearing the gunshots people nearby rushed to the spot and informed the police. The injured officer was immediately taken to Medanta Hospital where doctors described his condition as critical. The victim’s wife later lodged a complaint naming unknown persons following which an investigation was initiated.
Police officials stated that the attackers fled the scene immediately after firing. CCTV cameras installed in and around the restaurant and the shopping complex are being examined. The footage reportedly shows two individuals arriving in a vehicle stopping the officer’s car and firing before escaping.
Senior police officials confirmed that eight police teams have been formed to track down the accused. Inputs are also being gathered from local intelligence units. Police believe the attackers had prior information and deliberately targeted the former officer after confirming his identity.
The victim is a resident of Kabirpur Nagar and had previously served in the Air Force before retirement. He had been operating a restaurant in the shopping complex for some time. Further investigation is underway and police have assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
