Police in Shahjahanpur have booked eight men after a man and a woman jumped from the second floor of a pizza outlet following an alleged confrontation with members of a Hindutva organisation, officials said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Saturday at a pizza outlet near the Bareilly turn under the Kant police station area. An FIR has been registered against three named individuals and five unidentified persons based on a complaint filed by the injured man.

According to police officials, the couple was seated inside the outlet when a group of seven to eight men allegedly entered the premises and began questioning them. The group reportedly demanded identity cards and allegedly misbehaved with the couple, creating panic inside the restaurant.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said that the woman, fearing for her safety, allegedly jumped out of a second floor window. Vishal, a resident of Puwayan, followed her in an attempt to rescue her, resulting in both sustaining serious injuries.

In his complaint, Vishal alleged that the group not only harassed them, but also began recording videos, further escalating the situation. Both victims were rushed for medical treatment and are currently undergoing care.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Pravesh, Sonu, Harshit, and five unidentified persons. Investigations are currently underway to identify all those involved in the incident.

Following the episode, SP Dwivedi said that surprise inspections will be conducted at pizza outlets across the city. Authorities have directed outlet owners to remove enclosed cabins, avoid the use of curtains, and install transparent glass panels to prevent similar incidents in the future.
