A seventeen-year-old Dalit student from the District Institute of Education and Training at B Thandrapadu in Kurnool died by suicide on Thursday, according to police. The incident occurred when the girl locked herself inside the institution’s sick room while her friends stepped outside for a short time.
Police officials stated that the student had previously shared with her father that she found it extremely difficult to learn English and had even written that ending her life felt easier than trying to master the language. Despite her pleas, her parents insisted she return to college.
Investigators also noted statements from her friends, who said she had been experiencing menstrual discomfort, which may have intensified her emotional struggles. Authorities have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the incident.
