British actor Jonathan Bailey, best known for playing Lord Anthony Bridgerton in Netflix’s popular period drama Bridgerton, has been announced as People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025. The title, which marks its 40th anniversary this year, was revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 3.
Jonathan Bailey’s Reaction to the Honor
During the show, Fallon unveiled two special covers of People magazine featuring Bailey—one capturing him on a beach and another holding a dog. The actor humorously thanked Fallon for turning down the title, calling the recognition “an honour of a lifetime.”
In his interview with People, the 37-year-old expressed both pride and disbelief. He said the recognition felt surreal, adding that it had been kept a secret until the official announcement. Bailey admitted he looked forward to seeing his friends’ reactions, joking that they might be annoyed he kept it from them.
Friends’ Reactions and Personal Reflection
Bailey reflected on how his close friends have supported him throughout his journey, saying they’ve seen every side of him beyond his public image. He added that while the title is flattering, it’s his relationships and experiences that truly define him.
Upcoming Projects and Career Highlights
Alongside his breakout role in Bridgerton, Bailey has earned acclaim for portraying Prince Fiyero in Wicked and Dr Henry Loomis in Jurassic World: Rebirth. His next major appearance will be in Wicked: For Good, set to release in theatres on November 21.
Legacy of the Title
People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive feature began in 1985, with Mel Gibson as the first recipient. Over the decades, the honour has been held by stars such as George Clooney, Chris Evans, Patrick Dempsey, Paul Rudd, Michael B Jordan, and John Legend. Last year’s title went to John Krasinski.
