According to top sources quoted by PTI, at least 26 Maoists were killed in an encounter with police in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Saturday. The engagement, which began in the early hours of Saturday in the Kotgul-Gyarapatti forest, was carried out by police C-60 commandos and continued until late in the evening.

“We have recovered the bodies of 26 Maoists so far from the forest,” said district Superintendent of Police Ankit Goyal. While the identity of the murdered Maoists has yet to be confirmed by the police, sources claim that a key insurgent leader was among those killed in the gunfight.
