Kanhaiya Kumar, a former leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI), joined the Congress on Tuesday in the presence of Rahul Gandhi at the party’s headquarters in the national capital. Jignesh Mevani, a Gujarat MLA, has shown support for the Congress philosophy but has not formally joined the party.
Kanhaiya Kumar, according to an optimistic Congress, is a symbol of the country’s fight for freedom of expression. “His joining the Congress will enthuse our workers,” said senior leader and party general secretary KC Venugopal.
