The Taliban called on the Panjshir Valley’s holdouts to put down their arms on Wednesday after resistance members said they had repelled massive attacks. The steep mountain valley with high snow-capped peaks, located roughly 80 kilometers north of Kabul, is the focal point of Afghanistan’s most critical anti-Taliban force pocket.
As the Islamist group sends militants to encircle the enclave, the National Resistance Front, which includes anti-Taliban militia fighters and former Afghan security officers, has vowed to protect it.
