SHOCK EXIT! Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns Citing Medical Reasons

In an unforeseen and dramatic turn of events, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening, sending shockwaves across political corridors and the nation alike. Citing medical reasons, Dhankhar stated that he is stepping down with immediate effect.

The resignation was formally submitted to President Droupadi Murmu, who, sources say, received it late in the evening. The brief letter reportedly emphasized his “personal health” as the core reason behind this sudden decision, but officials have not disclosed the nature or seriousness of his condition.

A respected constitutional figure and a known advocate of parliamentary decorum, Jagdeep Dhankhar’s exit comes as a major political and institutional jolt, especially in a year shadowed by heightened political activity and upcoming general elections.

Silence from Government — Opposition Raises Eyebrows

While the Prime Minister’s Office has yet to release an official statement, political observers and opposition parties are already demanding transparency behind the resignation.

“We wish Mr. Dhankhar a speedy recovery — but the timing and secrecy are deeply unsettling. The public deserves to know more.”

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted,

Who Will Step In?

According to the Constitution, the Chief Justice of India may discharge duties temporarily in absence of a Vice President until Parliament takes further action. However, a full-time replacement will require an electoral process — possibly fast-tracked, say sources.

Political analysts believe this sudden vacancy may alter key dynamics in the Rajya Sabha, where the Vice President serves as the ex-officio Chairperson.

Flashback: Dhankhar’s Legacy

A seasoned lawyer and politician, Jagdeep Dhankhar took charge as the 14th Vice President of India in August 2022, after serving as Governor of West Bengal. His tenure was marked by firm handling of House proceedings and occasional stand-offs with opposition benches — often described as “tough but fair.”

With no prior public health alerts and his active participation in recent public events, his resignation has prompted more questions than answers. Will there be a revelation ahead, or is this truly a health-led exit?

The nation watches, waits — and speculates.
