System to convert liquid oxygen into low pressure oxygen gas developed by the Indian Army.

The Indian Army announced today that it came up with a solution to convert liquid oxygen into oxygen gas. The oxygen will be later supplied to the Covid patients.

The Army’s statement said,”Over seven days, the team of Army engineers in-direct consultation and material support from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Defence Research and Development Organization put together a working solution using vaporisers, pressure relief valves and liquid oxygen cylinders. Since oxygen was transported in liquid form in cryogenic tanks, quick conversion of liquid oxygen to oxygen gas and ensuring availability at the patients’ bed was a critical challenge faced by all hospitals managing COVID patients”.

The team of  the engineers used a self pressuring liquid oxygen cylinder of less capacity (250 litres) and processes it through an especially designed vaporiser with leak proof pipeline and pressure valves. the team was led by Major General Sanjay Rihani.
