Sri Lanka imposed a night lockdown to on Wednesday (May 12) all over the country to control the traffic at night. This is intended to fight the third wave of the pandemic that has caused approximately 800 lives on the island country.
The ban is from 11 pm to 4 am and is to be implemented from tonight until May 31. However essential services and transportation of food items will be allowed during this time. In addition to this there will also be a major travel ban on Monday considering the long weekend and festival of Eid on Friday.
Army chief Gen Shevendra Silva, who is the head of the COVID-19 combat operations said that the people were seen breaking the Covid preventive guidelines in the night as the large number of people were seen walking on the roads and attending private functions.
