The Indian Army came to the rescue of more than 450 tourists, including women and children, from Yongdi in North Sikkim near the India-China border following a sudden snowstorm in the area.
Yongdi experienced severe snowstorm and sub zero temperatures on Wednesday. About 450 tourists in the area, who were travelling in 120 vehicles, were stranded after their cars started skidding in heavy snow.
The Indian Army stepped in to rescue the stranded tourists. The Army personnel evacuated tourists’ vehicles by clearing the snow and creating a vehicle-safe lane.
The Army also provided medical support to the tourists who suffered from respiratory issues related to high-altitude and low temperature.
“There were no major injuries or casualties,” a district official said..
