Eleven people died of home-brewed rice wine in southwestern Cambodia in Kampot province, suspected of having high amounts of methanol, officials said on Sunday. Svaytong Khangteboung Police Chief Svaytong Khangtboung claimed that this occurred in a hamlet in Kampong Trach district of Svaytong Khangtboung municipality when victims drank rice at one of their neighbours’ funerals on Friday.
Kong said that samples of hazardous wine were obtained for laboratory tests in Phnom Penh City, and the findings have not yet been verified.
The incidence of poisoning was verified by Nha Bunthan, Chief of the Kampot Provincial Health Department but could not provide further details, while his subordinates worked on it.
