At least seven people have drowned in various lakes and ponds in Thane and Bhiwandi areas in the last 10 days. The police report said that two teens who had gone for a swim along with friends at a lake in the Yeoor range of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) had drowned.
The very next day two more youngsters drowned at the same location. Forest department has installed a warning board stating that the area is prohibited and those who will enter illegally, will face imprisonment for three years or a Rs 25,000 fine under the Wildlife Act.
However, on Tuesday a sixteen-year-old boy drowned in a water-filled quarry near Thakurpada at Kalwa (East), Thane. Yesterday, two youths drowned in a pond in the Pogaon area of Bhiwandi. They too had gone for a swim with their friends.
