Two days after the first-ever terror drone strike in the country at the jammu air force station, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting to discuss a policy on the use of civil drones, ‘futuristic challenges’ in the defense sector to equip the military with modern equipment to take on such threats.
The two -hour meeting with defence minister Rajnath Singh , home minister Amit Shah, national security advisor Ajit Doval and others, including civil aviation ministry officials, decided to fast track “a comprehensive policy” on the use of drones by civilian operators in the country.
With small drones now being increasingly used for commercial operations, the civil aviation ministry has issued guidelines on their use under the Unmanned aircraft system rules,2021.
