On 5 July, fuel prices again rose by 31 to 39 paisa and reached a historic peak. But the rate of diesel stays steady.
Over the past two months, the price of petroleum has grown 35 times and the price of diesel has climbed 33 fold. In Kolkata, the price of petroleum was Rs 99.88 per litre while the price of diesel was Rs 92.31 per litre. But petroleum costs have already exceeded the Rs 100-per-liter threshold in many areas, including Darjeeling, Murshidabad and Nadia.
Cab drivers are concerned about the sharp spike in oil costs. Since 2008, cab prices have not gone up.
