In recent years, Oppo has pipped brands like Samsung and Apple to become one of the most innovating brands out there. The company has been setting new benchmarks in smartphone design and has come out with some. Last year’s Find X was an example of how well the company blended a unique, beautiful design with powerful hardware. This year, the company continues that with the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom.
The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is a flagship smartphone that is part of the newly minted Reno series. It has a starting price of Rs 39,990, which makes it one of the more affordable flagship phones out there. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is a Snapdragon 855-powered phone that also touts a premium glass design, shark-fin pop-up camera, a notchless AMOLED display and of course, a 10x zoom camera. Read our Reno 10x Zoom review to know just why the flagship phones works so well.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Design
The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition is easily one of the best-designed phones this year even if it is wide and bulky. Right out of the box, you are greeted with a large device that offers an incredibly smooth curved back panel that instantly stands out from the crowd. This is due to a combination of a 3D Gorilla Glass 5 with a frosted, matt-like finish that makes it feel silky smooth to the touch. This also makes it quite slippery to hold and the more careful users out there might want to use the case immediately. Our Reno 10x Zoom review unit in Ocean Green looked fantastic.
The matt finish on the back makes the glass resistant to smudges and fingerprints, but not scratches and scrapes. The rear panel is almost flat as the camera setup sits underneath the glass. There is no camera hump, but there is a tiny green coloured bump, called the O Dot that helps prevent the cameras from being scratched while keeping it on a flat surface.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Display
With the shark fin pop-out camera, the display is left notch-free, hole-free and essentially distraction-free. So, you get a completely clean and tall screen that looks quite stunning. The top and side bezels are extremely slim and Oppo has done a commendable job at making the chin thin as well. What you’re left with is pretty much all display on the front, which is as immersive as you would imagine.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Camera
The pop-up camera rises in 0.8 seconds as per Oppo. The system houses a 16-megapixel f/2.0 front-facing camera that can also be used for face unlock. The triple camera setup on the back, includes a 48-megapixel f/1.7 Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens. The camera system supports 10x hybrid zoom, hence the name of the flagship. The phone can digitally zoom all the way up to 60x as well, which is largely unusable.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Performance and Software
Apart from the OnePlus 7 series, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition is the only other phone to be powered by a 2.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 855 chipset in India. As expected, the phone is absolutely blazing fast while opening apps and browsing through the UI. There is plenty of raw power to run anything you throw at it smoothly.
Should you buy the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom?
The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is by far one of the best flagship phones this year. It is is quite simply a beautifully crafted piece of machinery that deserves all the accolades when it comes to design. While its bulky build may put off some people, Oppo makes up for it by offering an absolute premium-feeling device for a phone that starts at Rs 39,990.
Beyond the glass design and unique shark-fin camera, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is a powerhouse performer with a blazing fast Snapdragon 855 chipset at its core and comes with some excellent set of cameras. Had this phone shipped with stock or near stock Android Pie, I would have recommended this without thinking twice. But ColorOS is an acquired taste and may be the only thing that will divide a consumer between the Reno 10x Zoom and the OnePlus 7 Pro.
