Mumbai: 15 lakh people caught without masks in 10 months, fined Rs 30 crore

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has caught more than 1.5 million people without a mask at public places since April last year amid the Covid-19 epidemic. BMC officials said on Wednesday that more than Rs 30 crore fine has been recovered from these people. Out of these, 13,008 people were caught on Monday and they were fined Rs 26 lakh 1600. Explain that after the surge in cases of corona virus infection in Maharashtra in recent times, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday appealed the citizens of the state to strictly follow all the corona rules. Chief Minister Thackeray had said that citizens should either follow the rules like wearing masks and observe physical distance or be prepared for another lockdown.It is noteworthy that BMC is charging a fine of Rs 200 for not wearing masks in public places. According to BMC data, most people not wearing masks were caught in Mumbai’s K-West ward. Their number was one lakh eight thousand 69. This area includes areas like Juhu, Andheri (West) and Versova. At the same time, the least number of people without masks were caught in the M-East ward, where they number 25,847. It includes areas like Anushti Nagar, Deonar, Cheetah Camp and Shivaji Nagar. Also, BMC and Mumbai block of railways have fined 4618 train passengers who did not wear masks between February 1 and February 14. The Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway said that 2060 passengers were fined on the Mumbai suburban route. At the same time, Central Railway said that 2558 passengers were fined and a penalty of Rs 3 lakh 28 thousand 500 was recovered.
