More than 27.55 Lakh COVID- 19 tests in India till now, says ICMR

Total number of “27,55,714 tests for covid-19 have been done till 1 PM today. 18287 tests were done in private labs,”

Dr Raman R Gangakhedkar, ICMR, was qoted saying as per ANI.

The Coronavirus cases in India is continuing to soar up. According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry on Friday, highest single-day spike so far in COVID-19 cases has taken the tally to over over 1.18 lakh cases in India. Even as the death toll in India has reached 3,580, the Union Health Ministry has said that mortality rate in COVID-19 cases in the country is 3.06 per cent as against the global rate of 6.65.

The ministry credited the efforts towards timely case identification and proper clinical management for the low mortality rate. Maharashtra has reported over 40,000 cases with the state capital Mumbai emerging the worst-hit recording over 25,000 COVID-19 cases so far.  Cities like Pune and Nashik are the other hotspots in Maharashtra.

Death toll in the state now stands at 1,454, officials said.  Delhi reported 660 new COVID-19 positive cases and 14 deaths in last 24 hours, taking the total positive cases to 12,319. Death toll stands at 208. There are 6,214 active cases in the national capital.
