Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella to be appointed as the new Chairman and will be replacing John Thomposon as the new Chairman , said Microsoft aCorporation on June 16.
Nadella, who took over as CEO in 2014 from Steve Ballmer, has been instrumental in scaling up its business including the billion-dollar acquisitions like Linkein, Nuance Communications and Zenimax.
The top-level executive change comes just over a year after Gates stepped down from the board,saying he would focus on philanthropic works of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations, one of the world’s biggest charities.
The main role of Nadella is to lead the work to set an agenda for the board, leveraging his deep understanding of the business to elevate the right strategic opportunities and identify key risks for the board’s review, Microsoft said in a statement.
