On Tuesday Maharashtra records 9,350 fresh Covid-19 cases and registered 388 death reports. However, Pune holds the highest number of active cases 17,623, followed by Mumbai with 17,519.
Similarly, in comparison to the fatality rate, Pune has a total of 15,593, followed by Mumbai with 15,216. Previously, the capital city of Maharashtra was leading the highest number of deaths. But the equation changed on June 13. Sources said that Pune recorded 15,187 deaths, while Mumbai recorded 15,183 for the last two days. However, Pune has continued to record a higher number of deaths than Mumbai.
Since 2020 Pune has recorded 17% of the total cases in Maharashtra with a caseload of 1,037,780, of the total 5,924,773 in the state. Dr Subhash Salunkhe, an advisor of the Mumbai government and resident in Pune said, “Even before Mumbai, Pune had travellers coming from the Middle East and China, who were infected with Covid-19. They infected the locals and it subsequently spread to the semi-urban and rural pockets.”
