To control the spread of Covid-19 in the state, the Maharashtra government has announced to increase the lockdown till May 31. The announcement was made hours after the meeting of cabinet ministers. At first the lockdown was imposed till May 15, and as per the guidelines private offices and non-essential shops will continue to remain closed.
Due to the lack of vaccines in the state, the Maharashtra government also postponed the vaccination of the 18-44 age group. However Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla has promised Maharashtra Chief Minister that he would deliver 1.5 crore doses of Covishield to the State.
Furthermore, Rajesh Tope added that the vaccination for the same age group will resume as soon as the consignment is received.
